Critical Role has teamed up with Polish developer LICHTHUND to co-publish ROCKBEASTS, a band-management RPG set in an alternate version of 1990s America. The game is scheduled for release in 2027.Players follow a struggling grunge band from basement rehearsals to arena tours. The campaign combines resource management, concert logistics, clashes of ego and dialogue choices with rhythm-based performances. Audience reception during each performance directly affects the group's morale and reputation in the industry. The band's day-to-day operations also include managing its finances, maintaining equipment, scheduling rehearsals and handling contracts offered by record labels and concert promoters. These decisions pit creative integrity against commercial viability. Depending on the choices made, band members may remain committed to the project or leave the group under pressure from the market.Jakub Szamałek, narrative director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, is leading the writing team. ROCKBEASTS will feature a hand-drawn adult-animation-inspired art style and an original grunge soundtrack with 17 tracks. The game received the “Excellence in Audio” award at the DevGAMM Awards and was also nominated in categories at gamescom. The partnership further expands Critical Role's involvement in game publishing, following the company's commercial involvement with DISPATCH from Adhoc Studio. ROCKBEASTS' voice cast will include core members of Critical Role and punk vocalist Iggy Pop.LICHTHUND and Critical Role said they will reveal more details about the voice cast and gameplay systems during the next Triple-i Initiative showcase. The ROCKBEASTS Steam page is already accepting wishlists, while production updates are available on the game's official website.
